Shelter Medical Services Manager

SUMMARY:
To maintain day-to-day operation of Shelter Medical Services and related activities. Ensure that daily duties are assigned to meet the needs of all shelter pets as well as admitting activity in order to provide the best possible medical treatment and care in all areas of the shelter. Must be knowledgeable of the medical aspects of each Shelter area at all times and be able to reassign work as necessary. Monitor the health of shelter animals, and make appropriate adjustments as needed. Must be proficient in the information interchange between departments.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Train the Veterinary Technicians, Assistants, and Volunteers
  • Supervise the workload and performance of all Shelter Medical Services staff
  • Create schedules, assign daily duties and responsibilities for Shelter Medical Services veterinary technicians, assistants and volunteers
  • Assist in conducting weekly staff meetings
  • Interface with Shelter Managers, Associates, volunteers, and adopters who may have more detailed medical questions including placement of animals in the Shelter for various health- related conditions
  • Monitor and assist in Shelter Medical Programs including In-house Sterilization Program (IHSP), Out of State Rescue Program, Domestic Rescue Program to help maintain inventory
  • Supervise special test procedures including FeLV, FIV, Heartworm and others
  • Interview, evaluate and discipline Shelter Medical Services staff
  • Function as a technician as needed
  • Perform Shelter rounds to monitor the health of the animals
  • Communicate with other Departmental Management to assure consistent interdepartmental functioning
  • Develop ideas to improve productivity and efficiency of Shelter Medical Services
  • Provide support and guidance for Shelter Medical Services staff
  • Maintain inventory control of medical and non-medical supplies
  • Contact adopters whose animals were adopted without needed medications
  • Maintain adequate medical records and logs for vaccinations
  • Oversee distribution of information regarding vaccines, test results, and Shelter Medical Services protocols
  • Revise attendance sheets for Shelter Medical Services staff
  • Admit animals through the nursery
  • Coordinate departmental and interdepartmental meetings to enhance the knowledge level of all associates in relation to shelter medicine
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years animal husbandry experience
  • Minimum of 2 years management experience
  • Must have strong veterinary technical skills. Licensed technician preferred, but not required
  • Must be knowledgeable of animal disease and the importance of isolation
  • Animal shelter experience a plus, but not required
  • Must have a sincere interest in the education, advancement and work ethic of staff members
  • Must be a multi-tasker and organizer on a grand level
  • Must have strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Must be computer literate (Excel, Word)

Shelter Outreach Field Manager

We are seeking a strong Shelter Outreach Field Manager to work closely with senior management on developing new shelter and rescue partnerships with North Shore Animal League America and Pet Saver’s American Mutt-i-grees Club.

Essential areas of accountability will be to identify and build relationships with existing shelter partners; present annual program and promotion plans to shelter partners; monitor shelter partner program and promotion participation and secure post results; create and maintain field reports; integrate with other NSALA and American Mutt-i-grees Club teams.

Requirements:

The successful candidate will be a business strategist who has at least 6 years professional experience; 3-5 years shelter/rescue experience required. Sales, account management or marketing experience a plus. Persuasive presenter and communicator. Organizational skills and attention to detail a must. Knowledge of computer applications a plus.

Licensed Veterinary Technician

North Shore Animal League America has a full-time opportunity for a Veterinary Technician who desires to work with animals in our Surgery Department. We are seeking a mature, energetic, warm team member with excellent communication skills who seeks to grow daily by both sharing and trading ideas.

Responsibilities include assisting in all aspects of surgical and nursing care in Surgery. Anesthetize, prepare and monitor surgical patients. Assist DVM(s) during rounds and surgery. Collect and process lab work. Perform technical duties such as radiology, vaccinations and client education. Other technical duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Active State Veterinary Technician License. Previous veterinary office experience a plus; effective interpersonal communication skills; available to work one weekend day and night each week.

Veterinary Technician

We are currently seeking a Part-time Veterinary Technician who has the ability to work in a fast paced environment, work well with staff members, be detail oriented and have good communication skills. Must be flexible, working additional hours when workload requires. Experience a plus, but will train right person.

Responsibilities include medicating animals, inclusive but not limited to Oral and Topical; carry out Veterinarian’s instructions; knowledge of medical equipment; perform dietary feedings (NE Tube/P Tube/Bottle); prepare and maintain daily paperwork, including laboratory test sheets and test logs; ensure proper documentation of medical records; identify animals in need of medical attention; transport animals to various departments when necessary; perform diagnostic testing; promote medical knowledge to staff and clients; maintaining a clean and caring environment; stock medical and non-medical supplies; various duties as assigned.

Staff of Veterinarian Medical Center

SUMMARY:
Provide high quality care for all Animal League pets in the Shelter and Medical Center and those entitled to care at the Animal League Medical Center while following all Animal League procedures and protocols in both the Shelter and the Medical Center.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Participate in Shelter and Medical Center rounds: perform physical examinations, and institute appropriate treatment for a high volume patient caseload with emphasis on pediatrics and infectious diseases.
  • Interpret diagnostic tests including blood work and radiographs.
  • Complete Shelter Medical worksheet while doing Shelter Medical and Daily Status Sheet for client updating during rounds in the Medical Center
  • Schedule premie and adult pre-adoption spay/neuter surgeries as well as other appropriate surgical procedures.
  • Complete all appropriate medical records and supporting documentation. Correctly fill out all necessary prescription and request forms.
  • Prepare special Discharge Notes for animals being discharged from the Shelter or Medical Center.
  • Discharge Shelter Medical animals when a pre-existing medical condition requires that an owner receive detailed medical information prior to adoption.
  • Participate in spay/neuter clinic and perform other surgical procedures as appropriate for patient care and in line with veterinary skills.
  • Participate in outpatient clinic.
  • Conduct telephone conversations with adopters re: hospitalized patients, test results and general medical information.
  • Guide veterinary technicians in performing treatments.
  • Participate in continuing education conferences and lectures and remain current on veterinary literature.
  • Interact effectively with veterinary specialists and referral institutions as necessary to provide care for patients.
  • Participate in DVM Meetings and discussions of current disease trends, perceptions of efficacy of treatments and protocols. Contribute to discussions on the disposition of difficult and complex cases.
  • Perform necropsy examinations to determine etiology of disease when necessary.

The candidate must be a delivery-focused person with solid experience and skill set. Proven track record optimizing web technologies to enhance and promote business practices.

Essential areas of accountability will be to optimize web member acquisition, retention and activation strategies; oversee content development, prioritization and outbound communications; manage and develop the Web Team; coordinate internal team and agencies; benchmark web leaders to provide best practices; manage and cultivate online web partnerships and sponsorships; enhance fundraising efforts; integrate with shelter operations; prepare financial reports for direct report including but not limited to web analytics, donor analysis and data segmentation.

Requirements:

The successful candidate will be a business strategist who has 5-7 years of professional experience managing websites. Must possess accomplished verbal and written communication skills along with meticulous attention to detail. Experience with Convio strongly required. Knowledge of Graphic Design, SEO, PPC and SEO software; HTML, CSS, PHP, CSS, Flash, Action Script, Photoshop, InDesgin, Illustrator, Adobe CS products a plus.
