Bradley's Adoption Requirements:

Household Requirements:

Bradley has a deep wheeze. This sound can be expected throughout his lifetime and will affect his ability to run and play. He will tire more easily and should not be pushed to exertion. Therefore, Bradley has the following household limitations:

  • No smoking;
  • Avoid other respiratory irritants like air fresheners and perfume;
  • Limit activity to 30 minutes off leash in dog parks;
  • No extended running or exercise.

Medical Requirements:

Bradley is a special needs pet. He should probably have a normal life span; however medical complications can include pneumonia and/or flare-ups of inflammation. North Shore Animal League America will cover all of Bradley's medical costs at our Medical Center or an NSALA recommended referral hospital for life.

Medical exams:

  • Keep updated on all vaccines, especially Bordetella annually;
  • Re-check every 4 months or sooner if there are flare-ups;
  • All medical expenses covered at NSALA or an NSALA recommended referral hospital for life.

Medication:

  • Expected to be on oral bronchodilator for life;
  • May require intermittent inhaled prescription;
  • May require long-term intermittent steroids to decrease inflammation.

Behavior Requirements:

Every dog's behavior is contingent on the behavior of the people that are closest in proximity to that dog. Keeping this in mind, it is best not to act excited, talk in a loud or startling tone, or make unnecessary excited movements. Bradley needs to be surrounded by tranquility to be able to breathe optimally.

  • Bradley should be walked only on an easy walk harness;
  • When he interacts with any person, that person must remain calm so as not to get Bradley overly excited;
  • Bradley should NEVER be in a play group with multiple dogs at once. At MOST, he can be with one other calmer dog, supervised in a small area for no more than a few minutes;
  • Bradley should NEVER play unsupervised. Extra care should be taken when the temperature outside is extreme;
  • It would be ideal to practice “down” and “down-stay” with Bradley; as these two commands are designed to quickly calm a dog down. (A trainer will show you how this should be done);
  • Bradley should never be outside in very hot weather.

Things to Avoid:

  • Avoid boarding kennels and grooming facilities;
  • Bradley should NEVER be exposed to smoke or harsh chemicals (bleach, chlorine, ammonia, perfumes or any other chemical that irritates the respiratory tract).
