Pets with Special Needs Are Special, Indeed
All of our precious animals have hurdles to face. North Shore Animal League America has hurdles to face – as do we all. We want all of our wonderful feline and canine friends to have the special homes they long for and deserve. Some of them have come a long way, some have elaborate pasts, and all have a meaningful life ahead of them. It is our special needs animals, however, that have the additional obstacles blocking their paths to happiness. We urge you to understand their needs and consider making a monumental difference in their lives.
North Shore Animal League America is undoubtedly determined to end pet homelessness – and will work tirelessly to achieve that. We know that we are not perfect. We do not ask you to be; and we hope that you do not require these dear animals to be perfect either; for pets with special needs are special, indeed.
Meet Just a Few of Our Special Needs Friends
Lucy
Adult Female, Spayed Domestic Shorthair. Approximately 11 years old. White/Tabby color.
Lucy is a lovely older gal who is full of charm and personality. She wants nothing more than a warm lap and loving hand petting her tenderly on her head. Lucy is a special-needs cat and has a history of congestive heart failure requiring intensive care and oxygen therapy. Some other health issues include early chronic renal disease and a heart murmur.
Lucy is on four different daily medications to control her conditions. She is at high risk for a repeat episode of congestive heart failure and needs to have an attentive owner who can look for subtle changes in her health. She also needs a consistent diet without any abrupt changes. In addition, Lucy has dental disease, and bilateral medial patella luxation (a displaced kneecap).
Because of these various conditions, pretty Lucy will need regular checkups. Though she may need a little extra effort, it is certainly worth it. Lucy is a pleasure to be around and a wonderful companion. She will make anyone a perfect pet.
