Pet lovers at North Shore Animal League America acknowledge that the actual birth dates of most rescued dogs are unknown. To give these wonderful animals their much deserved recognition and celebration, the Animal League is holding a second annual doggie birthday bash on August 1, 2009, known as DOGust the 1st. We are declaring the first day of the eighth month of 2009 as DOGust the First, a universal birthday for rescued dogs everywhere.

Mr. Krieger, who recently adopted his dog Freddie from the Animal League, has written the music for several Broadway shows, including Dreamgirls, The Tap Dance Kid and Side Show and won a 2007 Grammy Award.
