Little Hubert came to us in December 2007 through the North Shore Animal League America’s Safe Haven Surviving Pet Care Program after his loving owner succumbed to a lengthy illness. Transitioning to a new environment can be difficult for any pet that is accustomed to a loving home with a familiar family, but here at the Animal League, our doting staff and volunteers made every effort to ensure that Hubert received all the affection and care that they would afford their own pets. |
While Hubert was in our care he was forced to overcome a series of ups and downs, including the loss of his littermate to natural causes and chronic gum disease which required the removal of all of Hubert’s teeth. Through it all, Hubert remained affectionate and sweet and could often be heard “meowing” for attention and love whenever an employee or visitor would come near him.
Recently, a wonderful family that had lost one of their beloved cats to illness was visiting NSALA to find a new companion for their kitty, Jeremy. Once the family learned of Hubert’s story, they realized that he would be a perfect fit because of his sweet temperament and gentle demeanor.
At NSALA we strongly believe that animals like Hubert are deserving of a second chance to live out their full lives in a loving home and should not simply be discarded because of their age or because they are burdened with treatable medical ailments. Hubert is a wonderful example of how your financial support of our facilities and programs enable us to maintain our strict no-kill practices and philosophy. While most shelters would simply have destroyed an adult cat like Hubert as soon as he was brought in, we believe that his life has value and he deserved every chance to find his “Safe Haven.” |

Hubert’s new family is happy to report that he and his new kitty pal Jeremy are the best of friends and he has brought much joy and love into their home.
Hubert and the 20,000 of his four-legged friends that NSALA adopts every year thank you for your wonderful generosity and support. |

Live in the Tri-State area?
Hubert was one of 13 pets from one home, where the owner enrolled in the Safe Haven Program before he died. Three adult dogs, Buster, Penny and Dudley, were adopted, plus almost all of the 10 adult cats. Please find it in your heart to adopt Hubert's sisters, Mel and Amelia and give them the loving home that they once had. |
