Spikey Update
Dear Friends,
Thank you so much for opening your hearts to our darling Spikey. We know it's been a while since we last talked to you about him, and we apologize for keeping you waiting, but Spikey has been having a difficult time. He had contracted pneumonia and gave everyone quite a scare. He's so young and weak, and the pneumonia lasted for a while - even with the 24/7 care he was receiving. When his pneumonia has finally resolved, everyone let out a relieved exhale.
However, Spikey has a new problem - one that is much more serious. This little puppy, on top of all his issues, now has a bad heart valve, which has caused him to go into heart failure. Though Spikey is on medication to stabilize, his prognosis is now only 1-1.5 years with medication.
The League is saddened by this news, and we fear for our puppy. He is so young and hasn't even begun to experience the joys of being a puppy. The League's Veterinarians are considering valve replacement surgery for Spikey. This is an extremely risky operation, but may prolong his life if successful. Before this important decision is made, however, Spikey will need to meet with a top cardiac surgeon to see if this delicate operation is the best option for him. We only want to do what is best for him.
Spikey has deeply touched our hearts - and we know he has touched yours, too. It seems so unfair that a sweet puppy who has had such a profound impact on the hearts of strangers suffers from hear failure. But rest assured that we will do everything we can to help him heal.
Thank you for all you have done for Spikey, and for all that you continue to do - for Spikey and for so many others. Every heart makes a world of difference.
