North Shore Animal League America opened its doors to its Friskies Cat Habitat on July 22, 2004. It was designed and constructed by Purina, who consulted with a well-known cat behaviorist, as an alternative to cages. All of the surfaces are covered in cat-friendly materials including sisal-covered scratching surfaces, carpets, foam and hidden nooks for exploring and napping. Here the feline inhabitants are able to roam freely, play, and socialize with the other pussycat residents 24 hours a day.

Located right across the street from our adoption center, the Cat Habitat gives our cats a chance to stretch their legs, sharpen their claws and mingle with their peers. It is especially helpful to and appreciated by the cats who have been in our care more than 30 days. In addition, the Cat Habitat also helps adopters by giving them a better view of our cats' spunky and playful personalities and allowing them to witness them in a home-like setting. And to encourage the adoption of our adult cats, all adoption fees for cats in the Habitat are waived!

Gender: M
Age: Adult

Meoww.. My name is Pete and my sister’s name is Priscilla. We have been here since June and have been patiently awaiting a home. We have already been brought back twice, but you know what they always say don’t you? The third times the charm!

Our first owner had us for a year and unfortunately passed away. We then got adopted again and our second owner lost his job and couldn’t afford to care for us any longer. We really would like to go to a home and stay there with someone who will love us and be able to take care of us forever! Please come visit us and we promise you that we’ll be great friends forever.

Note: Pete must be adopted along with Priscilla

Ruth
Name: Ruth
Adoption #: MA0459
Gender: F
Age: Adult

Hey there! My name is Ruth and I was rescued some time ago from a municipal shelter. I had a bit of a rough start because I was really nervous, but the people here at the Animal League treated me really well and even let me stay in the habitat where I’ve felt a lot more comfortable. I love lounging around, napping by the window and running around with my cat pals but nothing’s the same as a real home. I’m a really pretty girl and I know I would be a great friend to you. Please come and see me, I promise you won’t regret it!

Sir Francis is a wonderful, regal cat who is very affectionate and friendly. He has gone through a lot in the past few months. He used to be someone’s pet and he was found on the streets, emaciated and close to death. He was nursed back to health in the Animal League’s Help Me Heal Program. Sir Francis is fully recovered and just waiting for someone to give all his love to. So come into the Animal League and give Sir Francis the happy future he deserves.

Timmy

Gender: M
Age: Young Adult

Purr! My name is Timmy; aren't I handsome?! As the model that I am, a cage is no place for me. I would love to go with you and walk the catwalk in your home. Of course I do love spending my days on top of the cat perch and playing with my cat pals here in the cat habitat but would prefer to be in your home cuddling up with you. Ask an associate to meet me. I guarantee once you gaze into my eyes it will be love at first sight!
