Bitsey Before: Calico kitten, Bitsey, was most likely in a shelter when Hurricane Katrina hit. At only 8-10 weeks old, she never would have survived on the catastrophic streets. Rescued from the animal-packed staging area in Louisiana, she, like the others, was air-lifted back to the safety of the League. From day one, she was outgoing, vocal and extremely friendly. She seemed literally unaffected by the devastation that had previously enveloped her. It was no doubt that Bitsey was going to be just fine, and would soon make a wonderful companion to a very lucky person.
Bitsey After: Bitsey, who was originally being called “kitty,” was in our care for several weeks. No one had claimed her, but one of the League’s staff members had their eye on her the entire time. She began to call her "itsy bitsy cat," as she was just so tiny; and the two became very attached. It wasn’t long before Bitsey was on her way to her new home. There, she immediately bonded with her two new step-sister cats, who immediately welcomed little Bitsey into the family. Two years later, Bitsey is still a very warm, vocal and friendly cat. She is the first to greet visitors and the most curious of the three cats. At any given moment, you can find Bitsey curled up in the lap of her owner or snuggled in between her two step sisters. Though she is unaware of it, Bitsey had an extraordinarily dangerous adventure; but now she is truly in a warm and happy place.
