Chances Before: Chances, a sweet and timid Cattle Dog mix, was separated from her family when Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans. She had recently given birth to a litter of gorgeous puppies, but sadly, none of them survived the storm. As rescue teams searched the marshy streets, they discovered Chances hiding beneath the ruins of a house. Trembling and scared, Chances was exhausted. Her days had been spent running from the floods and mud, battling disease and starvation, escaping the clutches of hungry predators and mourning for the loss of her family and pups. Later, when the League located Chances’ family, they decided to relinquish her. Once again, Chances was on her own.

Chances After: Just four months after her rescue, Chances met a special someone who would later become the love of her life. A visitor to the League walked through the corridors in search of a new best friend. When she met Chances and spent some time with her, she knew that there was something very special about her. Not surprisingly, Chances was having some residual Hurricane Katrina stress and depression. She was territorial and did not like close contact. When she first stepped foot into her new home, she exhibited these behaviors, and snapped at her owner when she tried to hug her. But all it took was a little time and patience, and Chances soon realized that she was safe and loved. She learned that she did not have to fend for herself against terrifying dangers anymore. Her horrific ordeal was over, and she was truly safe from the storm and all the devastation that it brought. Today, Chances is a warm, friendly and extremely affectionate dog. She loves to cuddle and hug, give kisses and is very attached to her owner. They go everywhere together and rarely spend any time apart. They both had taken a chance on each other – and they both found a love that no storm could wash away.
