Stanley Before: At only 10 months old, Stanley, a gentle Pit Bull Terrier mix, had witnessed more devastation than any young animal should. Hurricane Katrina had taken its toll on poor Stanley and had left its mark. When Stanley finally touched ground at the League, he had various medical problems. From emaciation to an upper respiratory infection to hair loss, Stanley was in poor shape. But worst of all, Stanley had orthopedic problems. Suffering from a condition where his kneecaps would not stay in place, Stanley required immediate corrective surgery on his knees and hips and had a long and intensive healing process in his future.
Stanley After: While in our care for almost a year, Stanley had gone through several taxing surgeries and regular physical rehabilitation – getting ready for the day he would go to his new forever home. That day finally came, and Stanley, the “special needs” dog, went home with someone who found him to be perfect. The two immediately bonded. He took over Stanley’s physical therapy and devised creative ways to exercise his legs. With a vitamin regimen for joint strength combined with daily low impact exercises, Stanley’s legs began to strengthen. He even went as far as to put a life preserver on Stanley and guide him though a water-therapy workout. One moment, Stanley was fighting for his life, and the next, he was being pampered and passionately attended to. All of these diligent efforts paid off. Stanley is happier than he could have ever imagined possible and is as dedicated to his owner as his owner is to him.
