Since 2000, North Shore Animal League America, the world's largest no-kill pet rescue and adoption agency, has honored a remarkable group of animal heroes and notable animal champions, from philanthropists and veterinarians to humanitarians and guardian angels.

Through their support, generosity and tireless efforts, they make the world a better place for animals in need. North Shore Animal League America would like to show our gratitude for these steadfast heroes and their selfless dedication by awarding each one of them the Lewyt Humane Award.

This year, North Shore Animal League America is proud to have Dr. Debbye Turner, staff correspondent and resident veterinarian for the CBS network's The Early Show as well as 2007 recipient of the Alex Lewyt Veterinary Medical Center Award as our esteemed Host.

Special honorees include the Laura J. Niles Foundation, Greg Biffle, and Jana Kohl.
