The response we received for people wanting to open up their homes to "Hurricane Katrina Orphans" has been amazing. Thank you all for caring so much. Click here to view just a few of the adorable faces that were rescued from the south.

Below are North Shore Animal League America's adoption procedures. We want to ensure that these pets have no further delay in finding their long-awaited happy endings. Therefore, we will not place holds on any pets and will evaluate applications on a first come, first served basis.

Adoption Procedure

If you live outside our area, we do ask that you are willing to travel to our shelter in Port Washington, New York.  Before coming to our shelter, please call 516-883-7575 and tell one of our representatives that you live out of the New York, New Jersey and Connecticut area. You will need to be approved to adopt before coming to our shelter. Once approved we will make arrangements for you to visit our shelter and bring your new best friend to their new "forever home".

If you live in the tri-state area (New York, New Jersey or Connecticut) the easiest way to adopt is to come in to the shelter as soon as possible. We have Katrina Orphans available for adoption today with many more scheduled to arrive in the weeks to come.

We need your help today. Visit our shelter and one of our adoption associates will be glad to show you all of the homeless animals in need of adoption, including the "Katrina Orphans".

If you are unable to adopt you can always help by donating to the rescue fund.
