Re: Hurricane Katrina Animal Rescue Efforts

From: Joanne Yohannan, Emergency Response Team

The offsite adoption team is now in emergency rescue mode.  We are in contact with several southern rescue groups and shelters.  Here's what's happening:

Oscar and Kris are the first phase of our rescue operations.  They are on route to Alabama and will coordinate the rescue of 36 animals.  The animals will arrive in our shelter Friday morning.

Our second response team consists of Diane, Mike and Jenn.  They will be leaving the League this afternoon with mobile unit 4. They are headed towards the heart of Alabama & will assist in rescuing animals in the shelters hit the hardest near the coast.

We anticipate that the second group of rescued animals will arrive at the League by Monday.

As we all know, the level of devastation is catastrophic.  The rescue route will be difficult and we wish our rescue team a safe and speedy return.
