Date: September 10, 2005 Time: 9:51 pm EST Re: Hurricane Katrina Rescue Efforts From: Debbie Today as we were leaving the hotel to go back to the shelter, we saw the family we met last night walking their dog and getting ready to head back to Louisiana. We wished them the best of luck and they thanked us for caring for the animals in need. When we arrived at the shelter there were about 15 volunteers waiting to welcome us. We spent time visiting with all the dogs, walking them and getting to know them better. They were happy to be out and getting so much attention, love and belly rubs! We loaded 23 dogs into two rescue units to head back to the League. The staff said their goodbyes and cried as they watched their favorite dogs depart. They were happy too knowing that these deserving pets will soon be adopted into their new, forever homes. Although we just met the Tuscaloosa Metro Animal Shelter staff, it was difficult to leave. We all share a common bond - a love of animals and a mission to save as many of them as possible from this tragedy. We said our goodbyes and turned our thoughts to the animals in Birmingham in need of our help. Debbie, Christina,Tom
