Date: September 16, 2005 Time: 11:16 pm EST Re: Hurricane Katrina Rescue Efforts From: Dr. Eve Ognibene Dr. Weisent, Corey, and Jeff joined the team last night. Corey stayed in Tylertown today while we went back to New Orleans. Our first stop was an interview with CNN. After the spot, the producer followed us to the parking lot of the Winn Dixie where the animals are being rescued. She had filled her entire SUV with supplies from the studio for the people working there. Today, the animals were arriving in worse condition. Dr. Weisent and Jeff worked on many dogs that were dehydrated, hot, and malnourished. They worked for many hours in the grueling heat. They did a fantastic job. We left New Orleans to check out Gonzalez, LA which is a central animal staging area with over 1,300 animals. Low and behold, we ran into Dr Pomerantz and the VMAT unit saving animals. Lastly, we went to Baton Rouge to speak with MSNBC about the desperate situation for the animals in New Orleans. They were very kind and gave us food and access to showers which was desperately needed and appreciated. We are heading home now. Talk to you soon. Dr. O, Jeris, Dr. W and Jeff |
