Re: Hurricane Katrina Rescue Efforts
From: Diane
Today we went to the shelter and met with all of the staff. They were great - so welcoming and grateful that we are going to be taking animals back with us to find new homes for them. Now they will have more room for animals displaced in the hardest hit areas.
We were given a tour of the shelter upon our arrival. The animals were just as nice and happy to greet us as the staff. The shelter was spotless and so well laid out, the feeling was one of awe. We were very impressed and pleased with everything.
After our tour of the facility we took pictures of the grounds and the shelter. Then we met with staff and outlined a plan for the animals that we will be taking back to the League.
The animals are terrific. There are lots of young pups and dogs that we know will be adopted in a short period of time so we can hopefully help out more animals in need at a later time.
Jen and I got to know them much better when we took a group of dogs out for walks. They were so happy to be able to get out and play for a while. (Then we found out we were suckered by those innocent faces and eyes since they get walked two to three times each and everyday) Silly us.
Mike helped out the shelter by organizing some much need fundraising materials.
It was a nice day. The calm before the storm you could say since tomorrow we are going to be heading out to assist in a rescue mission to move animals from Mississippi to Alabama if all works out.
Once all is secured and finalized we will send an update. It will be a great experience. Will keep all posted.
