Hi everyone.  I’m Roo. I’m a 7 1/2 month old female Border Collie mix. As you know, Border Collies are very agile. They can run lightning quick and jump high off the ground – especially when there’s a Frisbee hovering above.

Unfortunately, I can not do all those things that are native to my breed. If you look at my photos, you can see that I have physical deformities that limit my movement.

I always get so excited when I see my friends running and chasing things – jumping over bars and through hoops. It really looks like fun. But I was born with very weak wrist joints, and when I walk, my joints are dropped to the floor. My toes drag on the ground, and this causes my paw pads to bleed and wear down. As I grew, my body compensated for it, and now, my elbows are out of alignment.

I’m pretty used to my legs being this way, and have learned to work around it, but I still dream of jumping to catch that beautiful red Frisbee that’s dancing on the air. That would be the best thing ever.

Regardless of my physical challenges, I’m a very lucky dog. Not only am I part of the League’s life-saving Help Me Heal program which gives me the intricate care and treatment I need, but I also live with one of the League’s doctors, and she takes excellent care of me. As part of my routine, I attend extensive daily physical therapy and weekly sessions at an official agility center to build strength and coordination and improve my overall physical well being. Soon I’ll be going for a cat scan to assess my joints and limbs; and if all goes well, I’ll be able to have corrective orthopedic surgery for both of my front legs!

Thanks to generous and loving people like you who understand the importance of the Help Me Heal program, I’m able to get the elaborate care and treatments I need to heal. Without your help, innocent animals like me may not have the opportunity to be well. Thank you so much for your generosity and support and for making that Frisbee almost within reach.
