A More Caring Community
The love that a responsible, enthusiastic owner gives a pet is equaled only by the love that pet returns. To make the most of this equation, North Shore Animal League America has created community programs — one dedicated to providing better care for more animals, another to sharing our residents’ unconditional love with more people.
Education
To ensure that area children know how to handle pets safely and lovingly — and that they take that knowledge with them to adulthood — the League sponsors a Public Education Team. These dedicated people travel to schools, camps, day care centers, and wherever else children are gathered to instruct them in the basics of pet care. After age-appropriate instruction is given — with puppies and kittens in attendance — materials are handed out for the children to bring home. The Team also conducts tours of the League’s Adoption Center in order to show groups of children a little more about what we do.
Outreach
To share the unconditional love our residents so freely give, the League has also created a community Pet Outreach Team. This group of dedicated associates brings puppies to hospital wards, Alzheimer's and Cerebral Palsy centers, and other long-term care facilities where people are unable to experience the joys of pet ownership. Both medically and emotionally, the results of these visits are truly amazing. From lowering patients’ blood pressure to eliciting responses from previously non-verbal patients, the League’s animals have proven time and again to be genuine miracle workers. | |
