It’s with great regret we are informing you that our beloved Hershey passed away on January 13, 2006, after a lifelong battle with a severe heart disease and congestive heart failure. Hershey fought the good fight but in the end, his illness overcame him. Hershey sat patiently through many echocardiograms during his short lifetime, which were made possible by the generous donations from people like you. It was because of these donations that Hershey was able have such a happy and normal life despite his illness. We all know, as pet lovers, it’s not the number of years a pet lives but the quality and happiness they have while they are with us that is most important. Our hearts go out to Hershey’s foster care mom who took such great care of him. Thank you to all who donated to Hershey’s cause. It made all the difference to our friend we’ll all miss so much, Hershey.
Hershey

Hi, I'm Hershey and I’m doing pretty well. I love my foster care mom and the dog and other cats I live with. Despite my heart trouble, I really get to be a regular cat where I live. There is this Golden Retriever who lives with me, Lulu, and we are the best of friends. We cuddle and even eat together out of the same bowl! Now that I’m feeling better, my hobbies include looking out the window at the birds and biting noses – playfully of course! I try to be a good boy when my foster care mom gives me my medicine; I know that the medicine helps me to feel better. My mom gives the heart specialist weekly progress reports and I have an echo-cardiogram every three to four weeks. Thank you all for helping me to feel good.

Hershey's Update

Here at the League, we explore every option to keep our pets healthy and happy. After three echocardiograms, chest x-rays, an angiocardiogram and consultations with three specialists, all agreed that surgery and or placement of a coil are not options for Hershey. Despite all this, Hershey is a loveable cat and enjoys the company of anyone who wants to say hello. It’s almost as though Hershey knows his days with us could be brief. His diagnosis is guarded, but we have had cats with this diagnosis who have surprised us. We will continue to monitor Hershey’s condition and keep him comfortable, and most of all loved. He is in a foster care home where he gets all the extra love, attention and TLC one kitty could ever hope for.
