Pearl's Update

Hi! This is Pearl again! Now that my heart is strong enough I’ve been able to have my teeth worked on by a special veterinary dentist! I’ve had some gentle cleanings done which helps, of course, to keep my teeth free of food buildup. At home, my Mom has been cleaning my teeth daily with a Dora the Explorer spin head tooth brush! It’s my favorite! I’m a good girl when I get my teeth brushed and sit very still. I even get fluoride treatments three times a week. From now on, I’ll need to have three big dental cleanings a year, to maintain a ‘healthy smile!’ Because of the severe lack of enamel on my teeth, it’s been determined that it would be better if some of them were pulled. When the time comes for that, I’ll be a brave girl. I’ve been through so much already and I feel so much better, I can handle anything now. Thank you for helping me to feel so much better and be just like a normal puppy!

Pearl's Story

Hi my name is Pearl and I’m an active, happy 8-month-old pup, but I have a really bad heart problem and when I was a real young pup, I used to get high fevers. The fevers damaged my teeth and now I get infections in my mouth, which is dangerous for a dog like me with a heart problem. The kind people at North Shore Animal League America are really dedicated to taking care of me though, because I’ve already had heart surgery! And what’s more is that my doctors think my surgery went really well! I’m not out of the woods yet though because I need to have follow-up echocardiograms to see how successful the heart surgery really was. Once my heart condition is under control a veterinary dentist is going to help me with my teeth! I don’t know what I would do without the kind people at North Shore Animal League America and they couldn’t do it without the support from people like you. Won't you consider donating to ‘help me heal’ so that other animals can be helped like me?
