Ziggy's Update
Hi, this is Ziggy again. I’m feeling so much better than when my story was first put on the website. I’m having my dental implants and wiring removed this month! A special veterinary dentist put fake teeth in so that my jaw would be wired just right and now the time is almost here for it all to be removed. The best part is—I’m not in any pain anymore! My mouth doesn’t hurt me at all. It’s such a good feeling! I’m still trying to sneak dry food, but my mother is more lenient with me now because I’m practically healed and dry food won’t damage me like it could have last month or so. My mommy says I have a firm, well-rounded jaw. And what’s more is that I’ve gained 3 pounds since this whole ordeal happened! I’m up to a healthy 14 pounds now! Thank you all so much for helping me, and others just like me, get on the road to recovery. It means the world to us. Meow! |

Ziggy's Story
Hi I’m Ziggy, and as you can see I’m a really handsome orange and white kitty. I’m also a very big reminder that despite popular belief, we cats don’t always land on our feet. I fell from a window and fractured my jaw. I’m a lucky boy because I was brought here to North Shore Animal League America where I’ve been taken of care for the last few weeks. I’ve been really scared and in some pain but I know that I will get better. The technicians and the veterinarians here have made me feel so safe and comfortable. Because my lower jaw and TMJ joints are fractured, my jaw had to be wired shut to keep me from doing any additional damage to myself. You’ll notice in my picture that I drool-that’s because my mouth was left open a little to make me feel more comfortable and I just can’t it sometimes. I have a feeding tube for now so that I can maintain my weight but I’ve heard it will be coming out soon. I am even starting to eat canned food on my own. When I think no one is looking, I try to eat my fellow feline’s dry food but my foster mom is too quick for me and takes it away before I get a chance to taste it. She knows that dry food would cause my jaw further damage.
I’ve been through a lot and I’m facing a long road to a full recovery. The good news is that North Shore Animal League America’s Help Me Heal Program is doing just that – helping me get the medical care and loving attention I need to get back to my old self. You can make a difference by supporting the Help Me Heal program so that I, and other cats and dogs just like me, can continue to get better and lead happy, healthy lives.
P.S. Please remember that it’s very important for your pet’s safety to have screens installed on all of the windows in your home. |
