National Prevent a Litter Month – Campaign to Save Lives
February is a very important month at North Shore Animal League America. National Prevent a Litter Month is designed to foster public education and bring attention to the life-saving and vital importance of spaying and neutering our pets. When pets aren't spayed and neutered, the results are overwhelming and ultimately tragic.
Every spring, cats and dogs that have not been spayed or neutered give birth to countless puppies and kittens – overwhelming shelters all over the country with unwanted litters. As a result, there are always far more dogs and cats than there are homes. Each year in this country more than 5,000,000 unwanted animals are euthanized.
In recognition of National Prevent a Litter Month, the League is launching its Campaign to Save Lives to raise $10,000 to spay and neuter feral cats.
What impact will the Campaign to Save Lives have?

By spaying and neutering just one male and one female cat, more than 2,000 unwanted births will be prevented in just four years – and more than 2 million in 8 years!
The only way to stop the needless deaths of 5,000,000 animals a year is to stop overpopulation and the only way to stop pet overpopulation is through spay/neuter.
It may sound like a simple solution, but the road to reaching this goal is still long and steep. North Shore Animal League America understands the vital importance of spay/neuter and its impact on the overpopulation problem. To that end, every dog and cat in the care of the League is spayed or neutered prior to their adoption.
Now you can help Prevent a Litter and the needless suffering and euthanasia of millions of pets each year. Your gift of $25 to the Campaign to Save Lives can be used to spay or neuter one feral cat and $300 can help spay and neuter an entire colony.
Together, we can stop the needless destruction of innocent animals. Make a donation to the Campaign to Save Lives today and help us reach our $10,000 goal.
