Adoption Success Stories

North Shore Animal League America often receives stories and tales from people across the country on the joys of adopting a pet. Below, you will find just some of the stories we receive. If you would like to share your story with the Animal League to publish in a newsletter or online, please email us your story as well as a photo of your Happy Tail.

Eight Years Strong!

Hello all!

It was 8 years ago today that I adopted Travis from North Shore Animal League America. I just wanted to let you all know that he is doing real well. It has been over 2 years now since his surgery to remove a cancerous tumor. He is happy, healthy and still acts very much like a puppy. Sometimes too much!

Travis is the greatest dog I have ever owned. And he is one of the best friends I have ever had. I can't believe it has been 8 years since I brought him home. But it has been 8 great years. And I hope to have many, many more.

I have attached a few pictures of Travis & me. Please share with everyone. Thank you for helping bring Travis & me together.

Sincerely,

Gregory M. Spivak

Maggie's Happy Tail

Dear North Shore Animal League America,

Hello! Please accept our apologies for sending this out so late. Here is a paragraph about Maggie:

We were blessed with Maggie in early December 07. We had wanted to get a Yorkie (Yorkshire terrier) for about a year. Finally we were ready and learned that North Shore Animal League America brought potential adoptees to Petco in NYC. Maggie was the first dog we saw. We put our fingers through the cage and she responded to us. An Animal League representative took her out of the cage and gave her to me to hold . . . she was a perfect fit.

Then a wonderful thing happened – she fell asleep in my arms. That decided it – she was our dog now. Our next step was over to the adoption table.

Maggie has had a difficult past (physically and emotionally), but you would hardly be able to tell now. She has finally gotten what she deserves: a loving home with a devoted family.

We have included "before and after" photos of Maggie.

Thank you again for being a part of bringing such joy into our lives.

Sincerely,

Amy Langdon and Bill Hirtz
