Mike Malloy

Mike Malloy is the Manager of Behavioral Services at North Shore Animal League America. His love of animals started at an early age when he helped raise German Shepherds with his family, learning all aspects of the breed. When he was ten years old, he apprenticed along side his father, who was heavily involved with the Suffolk County Obedience Training Club. He was active in showing dogs throughout the eastern United States in obedience, confirmation classes and junior showmanship.

Mike's respect for animals and knack for "reading" their thoughts and anticipating their needs and actions has earned him the nickname of "The Dog Whisperer" around NSALA. He works with hard-to-place dogs, and has helped transform unadoptable animals into those who can find loving homes through his unending patience. Through his job, Mike traveled to Mississippi after Hurricane Katrina, and, for ten days, slept in tents and cars, caring for and rescuing animals that were lost or abandoned due to the horrific storm.

The lure to animals transfers to home, too. One day, he brought home a 12 week-old three-legged dog from NSALA named Abbey that he had become attached to. Mike intended to bring her home "just for the night." That was four years ago, and Abbey has since joined the family and become the agility star. Having one less limb never slows her down.

Mike is often called upon for his expertise in dealing with animals, but the one thing he cannot teach is the natural compassion and respect he has for all living things. He brings his inborn talents and love of animals to NSALA. His affinity with the animals, along with his intuitive skills, makes him the special trainer that he is.
