North Shore Animal League America Voted LI’s Best Animal Shelter By Long Island Press Readers
January 16, 2008 (Port Washington) -- Readers of the Long Island Press have voted North Shore Animal League America “Best Animal Shelter -First Place” in the publication’s Best of Long Island online competition. The people’s choice contest, sponsored by the nation’s ninth largest weekly newspaper, highlights the 64-year old animal organization, the world’s largest no-kill animal shelter.
The Best of Long Island competition calls attention to the efforts of outstanding LI businesses and professionals. North Shore Animal League annually rescues, nurtures and adopts over 20,000 homeless pets into loving, “forever” homes from its shelter. Its Port Washington site is home also to the Alex Lewyt Veterinary Center and the Pet Health Center, offering affordable, preventative health care services to pet owners.
Devera Lynn, Vice President of Communications, expressed the League’s pride over the first place achievement. "All of our staff and volunteers are pleased that supporters and neighbors on Long Island value our work and our contributions to humane services and voted us the best animal shelter on Long Island. We thank them for their continued support and pledge to uphold the standards that they have recognized, especially our efforts to find homes for all the animals in our care. We are also grateful to Long Island Press for making this recognition possible."
