North Shore Animal League America Seeks Adopters for Homeless Animals Rescued from Hurricane Ike
Live in the Tri-State Area? A Note to Local Adopters: As Hurricane Ike ravaged the Texas mainland, North Shore Animal League America's Mobile Rescue Unit, staffed with an Emergency Response Team, were en route to the region.
Forty two homeless animals including 28 dogs and 14 felines were brought back to the safety of North Shore Animal League America, and many are now ready for adoption.
The Emergency Response Team offered assistance to Texas shelters whose animals had been evacuated from high-risk areas, and worked in cooperation with the Humane Society SPCA of Bexar County in providing relief in freeing up dangerously overcrowded conditions. Animals were transported to the Animal League's Port Washington facility where they are now available for adoption into loving, permanent homes.
This is the team's third emergency call in three weeks, having responded to a West Virginia puppy mill rescue, where we saved over 120 dogs, as well as the retrieval of 79 displaced animals from Hurricane Gustav, transported to the shelter by Mobile Rescue Units.
