Sponsor Avida

Avida joined North Shore Animal League America's Sponsor Program in August 2008. Avida is a darling Domestic Shorthair cat with a gorgeous tortoiseshell coat. When Avida first came to the Animal League in 2006, she was in the late stages of pregnancy. She delivered seven kittens and shortly thereafter went into respiratory distress. She was placed on oxygen and it was later found that she also had severe feline asthma, a heart murmur, pectus excavatum, dental problems and ringworm.

For her asthma and heart murmur, Avida takes two puffs twice a day from a flovent inhaler and is also on a natural anti-inflammatory once a day. Though she coughs intermittently, she's doing well on her inhaler and knows how to convey that an asthma attack is coming. In addition, Avida has also had about 75-80% of her teeth extracted.

Avida will need medical care and treatment for the rest of her life which should be long and happy as long as she doesn't have a life-threatening asthma attack. Avida lives in a caring foster home and is a very loveable cat. None of her illnesses stop her from being a frisky little kitty, and the Animal League is happy to care for all of her needs.

Avida's Updates

3rd Quarter 2009
We are happy to report that Avida is doing well! Recently, her foster mother found her stretched out in the open windowsill sunning herself. She said it was a very happy and cute sight! Avida is taking her medications like a good little girl and the newer prescriptions for her tummy really seem to be making a difference in her comfort level. She is having no difficulty using the litter box and has been quite regular. Her asthma appears to be well controlled at the present time and she continues to receive her twice a day inhaler.

2nd Quarter 2009
Avida is a joy and such a happy cat! She recently had a bout of constipation problems and was started on a supplement to keep her belly nice and comfortable. She may need to have some adjustments made to her diet in the future, but for now the new supplement seems to be keeping her healthy. Avida had major dental work and almost full mouth extractions earlier this year due to severe dental disease and infection. She has been doing well and her coat is shiny again now that she is able to groom herself again! She enjoys time in the windowsill and LOVES trying to scare away the birds and squirrels who get to close to her perch!

1st Quarter 2009
Avida has been trying to sneak in and steal a spot with her Foster Sister "Lady Grace" as she naps in her new cat bed. She and lady Grace both tolerate their special cat adapted asthma inhalers and Avida's breathing has been quite comfortable. Avida also had recent dental work late last year and she has healed wonderfully! She has been grooming herself more readily and her haircoat is super shiny and smooth. She is being maintained on her fatty acid supplements and asthma inhalers twice a day. Avida thanks all of her Sponsors for the care they help provide!
