Bean joined the Animal League’s Sponsor Program in 2008. Sweet little bean is a tiny domestic shorthair cat who weighs only 1 3/4 lbs! This tiny kitty is eight months old and came to North Shore Animal League America with a littermate named Jelly. Jelly was a full sized kitten and did not have any medical conditions, so she was able to be placed for adoption. While Jelly has already been adopted, Bean needs special care.

Bean’s growth has been stunted, though we are unsure as to exactly why. In addition to being teeny, Bean has elevated liver valves. It looks like Bean will be a very small cat for her entire life. She will require regular monitoring and future examinations to further research her condition. Bean is also medicated and on a special diet to get her weight up, and to aid in liver function. With appropriate medication and dietary management, Bean will likely have a full life expectancy.

Right now though, Bean is very happy and quite content. She acts and plays like a full sized cat and even has the heart of lion! The Animal League is very happy to have Bean as part of our Sponsor Program family.
