Bonnie joined the League's Sponsor Program in 2007. Bonnie is an adult domestic short hair with a colorful calico coat. She was dropped off at the League when her owners could no longer care for her. Gentle, sweet, and eager to please, Bonnie is a treasure. However, Bonnie is a special-needs animal dealing with several life-long health issues. She suffers from seizures and is on Phenobarbital, which needs to be administered twice a day. It is unknown where her seizures stemmed from, but they are under control nonetheless, and happen infrequently. |
She also suffers from mild feline hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, which is the most common heart disease in cats. Because her heart murmur is mild right now, she does not require treatment. If it progresses, future medication will become necessary. In addition to these ailments, Bonnie also has elevated liver enzymes, which suggest liver disease. For this she is on denosyl, which aids liver efficiency. She will probably be on this medication for the rest of her life. All these unfortunate conditions have not tampered with Bonnie's charming disposition. After over 2 years of daily care in the League's shelter, Bonnie was finally adopted into a loving forever home - a home she waited patiently for and one that she truly deserves.
Bonnie's Updates
3rd Quarter 2009
We are happy to report that since returning to the Animal League, Bonnie has been doing very well! She has become accustomed to her new environment and is blending in well with the other shelter cats; she has even become calmer. Bonnie is also being quite friendly with her visitors, and may even let them pat her on the head or scratch behind her ears. In addition, with a healthy and controlled diet, Bonnie has also shed a few pounds. This is a good thing since she was a little heavier than she should be when she came back to the Animal League.
2nd Quarter 2009
Bonnie has been up to her same old antics. She's really not too fond of playing with the other cats in her home as they chase each other around and pounce on each other for some playful wrestling. However, she seems intrigued and will spend quite some time watching them from afar as she relaxes on the couch on her adoptive father's lap or in any other cozy spot she can find. As for her medical condition, her medication, which is administered daily, helps prevent the occurrence of seizures and has been very effective. In the rare occurrence that she does experience a seizure, her adoptive father has found that she doesn't have any additional side affects and resumes her normal routine without any discomfort.
1st Quarter 2009
Bonnie recently experienced a seizure in her home. Her owner advised that Bonnie does not have any other negative affects resulting from a seizure and usually goes straight to her food dish for a snack. She continues to take her medication to prevent these episodes, which does seem to help alleviate their recurrence. Bonnie remains a content cat that enjoys cuddling with her owner, separate from the rest of the felines in her home. She likes plenty of attention and has no problem demanding it!
4th Quarter 2008
Our precious Bonnie has been enjoying her home despite having a few other felines around that she doesn't necessarily get along with. Even when Bonnie was at the Animal League she sometimes had a fickle attitude and would enjoy her alone time in her cage while the other cats scampered around. In her home Bonnie typically spends her time away from the other 4 cats and retreats to her own room to relax. Of course Bonnie makes her way out to enjoy dinner time. Her family says that Bonnie gobbles up her wet and dry food quickly and this seems to be her favorite time of the day!
3rd Quarter 2008
Fortunately, Bonnie's health has been great and her family advised that she hasn't had any seizures in quite some time. Her foster mom makes sure to provide Bonnie with the right amount of attention and knows when Bonnie would like to be left alone. When Bonnie isn't in the mood for company she's been spending a lot of her time near the window in the bedroom. Right outside of the window there is a tree where a lot of birds love to perch and sing. Bonnie can not help but fixate on these peculiar creatures as they serenade her all day long!
2nd Quarter 2008
Bonnie's home seems to provide her comfort and happiness. She hasn't had any seizures in the past few weeks and is feeling well. Her family is happy to report that Bonnie continues to keep up her hearty appetite and loves mealtime.
1st Quarter 2008
Bonnie has adjusted very well to her new home and we couldn't be happier. Since being adopted, our precious Bonnie has not had any seizures. She has, however, gotten used to her hearty meals and can be caught “pigging out” in between her cat naps! But don't worry, Bonnie hasn't changed one bit since finding her forever home and still has her fickle attitude - she likes to find her own special place to be alone where she can catch some ZZZs by herself. We look forward to Bonnie's first check-up since her adoption so she can tell us all about her new home.
4th Quarter 2007
Bonnie just loves her new home and enjoys all the daily adventures that family life offers. She had a couple of seizures early on, but once medications were adjusted they seem to have dissipated. Bonnie has two favorite places: the kitchen, where she can watch over the food, and on top of an armoire in the living room, where she can watch over her family. Bonnie may be a new addition to the family, but she is loved like she's been there all her life.
3rd Quarter 2007
Beautiful Bonnie, our colorful calico has finally been adopted! After being at the League since February 2004, she has finally found a home. But her lifelong medical treatments mean that she'll still need support from her generous sponsors!
2nd Quarter 2007
We would like to welcome our resident cat, Bonnie, to the Sponsor Program. Bonnie can be a bit moody sometimes, but when she's good, she's great. She seems to find comfort in confined areas. Bonnie enjoys sitting perched in this tiny window where the light streams in. She is a pretty big cat, and it looks so cute to see her squeeze into the small space. She loves hiding in these tight places like the window sill and small boxes.
