Buttermilk joined the League's Sponsor Program in 2007. Buttermilk is a fluffy, flame point colored, male Himalayan cat. Buttermilk suffers from Atopic Dermatitis caused by his severe skin allergies. For the Dermatitis, Buttermilk is being treated with daily medication, which he will need long-term. Because of the severity of Buttermilk's skin allergies, he needs weekly injections and daily oral medication and will need these treatments for the rest of his life. Buttermilk's conditions are currently under control, and we expect him to live a long, happy life.

We are so happy to let you know that Buttermilk has been placed in his “forever home” with his best friend and littermate, Anisette. They are an inseparable pair – like two peas in a pod. Unfortunately, Anisette has a heart murmur that requires close monitoring too. Buttermilk and Anisette rely on each other for happiness. They get along beautifully and are gorgeous, loving and affectionate cats. Both need regular grooming to keep their luminous manes in good condition and both require the infinite love that they deserve.

Buttermilk's Updates

1st Quarter 2010
Buttermilk is doing great! Sometimes he still scratches his eyes. Therefore, he often has to wear a cone. Recently, he worked his way out of the cone in the middle of the night while the family was asleep; luckily there were no cuts in the morning. He is still on the medication which really helps his allergies. Anisette and Buttermilk will always be best buddies. His adopted mother is thankful he has someone to enjoy life with and so are we!

4th Quarter 2009
Buttermilk will soon be showing off a whole new do. His adoptive parents will be taking him for his very first haircut since he was adopted. They aren’t sure how he will react, but we are sure that he’ll look like a whole new cat without tons of thick, fluffy fur. It might even put a little pep in his step to shed some of the fur he carries around all day. As for his medical condition, Buttermilk has been doing great. The uncomfortable symptoms he experiences as a result of his allergic condition are at bay and he can play with his best bud Anisette - or chase her around - without a care in the world.

3rd Quarter 2009
Buttermilk's family is happy to report that their Himalayan beauty is doing fabulous. While his face is not completely free of skin irritation, it is significantly better and he seems to love the alleviation from the inflamed, red and itchy skin that he has previously experienced as a result of his condition. As for his budding social life, Buttermilk recently went on an exciting trip with his sibling Anisette, a much needed vacation to Saratoga County, New York to visit their grandparents. Buttermilk loved the trip and was even well-behaved for the car ride. As soon as he arrived at his grandparent's home, Buttermilk rushed to explore the entire house upon stepping out of his cage and made sure to investigate every nook and cranny.

2nd Quarter 2009
We are happy to report that Buttermilk continues to feel great. The irritation that was once made it difficult for him to open his eyes and caused him discomfort continues to remain under control. His adoptive parents are very committed to giving him his daily medication and cleaning his face to prevent any allergic flare-ups. Surprisingly, Buttermilk has grown accustomed to these daily treatments and doesn't put up a fuss at all. Most likely because he knows these treatments allow him to live a very fulfilling life with his best friend Anisette. Buttermilk even lets Anisette climb into his new kitty cube for a little rest and relaxation, which is quite generous of him since this is his new favorite bed.

1st Quarter 2009
Buttermilk has been keeping warm during the cold winter months by lying on his new blue bed near the radiator while Anisette takes naps in her own pink bed. This new comfy bed is his new favorite spot to relax. Recently Buttermilk experienced a flare up of his allergies and was experiencing some irritation in his eyes. To ensure that Buttermilk didn't injure himself by scratching his eyes his adoptive parents made sure that Buttermilk kept on his e-collar - a cone around his neck that he doesn't seem to mind. He has since come in to the Animal League for a check-up. Fortunately his allergic reaction has subsided with medication and his general health is great.

4th Quarter 2008
Buttermilk, along with his littermate Anisette, is doing great. Buttermilk is still taking his medication daily without any fuss and his adoptive parents are glad that his eyes are no longer irritated, red and swollen. They often try to take pictures of Buttermilk to capture his beautiful blue eyes on camera, but he seems to know when the camera is around and squints; ruining the photo opportunity. When Buttermilk isn't busy avoiding the camera he likes to roam around the home. However, Anisette usually has the run of the room they share. Since Buttermilk is definitely more submissive he lets Anisette exert her dominance and spends a lot of time with his adoptive parents in the living room where he cuddles up with them on the couch.

3rd Quarter 2008
Buttermilk and his family can barely remember the days when he suffered so severely from allergies that he could barely open his eyes. His foster parents are finding it difficult to stop taking photos of their beautiful Buttermilk. Now that his allergies have subsided, with the help of medication, they are able to capture his big blue eyes! Because he is doing so well and does not experience that much irritation, his foster parents can remove the collar around his neck for most of the day. You should see how Buttermilk struts around like a completely new cat; his confidence and glee are can not go unnoticed.

2nd Quarter 2008
Although recent medication prescribed for Buttermilk's allergies seemed to be working he has been experiencing irritation again. Unfortunately, this means that Buttermilk does need to wear a cone around his neck to protect him from scratching his face.

1st Quarter 2008
Buttermilk continues to have difficulty overcoming his allergies and was recently evaluated by a dermatologist. It is believed that Buttermilk may have food allergies and he has since been put on a restricted diet. Even though he's under the weather from time to time, his mood is lifted when he is allowed to roam around the staff offices. He doesn't roam alone; however, always by his side is Anisette, his best buddy and littermate. But the best news of all is that Buttermilk, along with Anisette, has finally been adopted into his forever home! We are all extremely excited because the two will be able to enjoy a whole new lifestyle with their new loving family together! We can't wait to see our little Buttermilk for his first check-up.
