Sponsor Chaz

Chaz joined the League’s Sponsor Program in 2003. Chaz is a sweet orange and white domestic short hair cat with gorgeous green eyes. He was abandoned at the League as a kitten. Sadly, this affectionate cat suffers from a very serious heart murmur – a problem so severe that it requires life-long medication, regulation of his activity, and constant monitoring. After years of patiently waiting within the walls of our shelter, Chaz finally found a family to call his own. Chaz was adopted in 2007.

All of the League’s staff members celebrated his adoption but were very sad to see him go – Chaz had affectionately become known as the League’s resident cat and everyone counted on seeing him each day! He did more good for the staff than he will ever know – showing us once again the power an animal has to give love so selflessly. Chaz’s special-needs will remain a burden that he has to deal with for the rest of his life, but with the help of generous monthly sponsors like you, he’ll live out the rest of his days as healthy and happy as possible.

Chaz's Updates

3rd Quarter 2008
Cheerful Chaz continues to be a fun and playful feline in his home. He loves to not only chase around the other cat in his home, but the dogs too! Smokey, Toby, Peach and Indy know to keep their guard up when Chaz is lurking around. You never know when he’s going to spring in to action. While Chaz does take medication twice a day to help regulate his condition, he also knows when to stop playing and rest in order to keep from overexerting himself; he proceeds to jump up on the couch and take a nap.

2nd Quarter 2008
Chaz recently came to the Animal League for his routine check-up. Our veterinarians monitored his heart condition and we are happy to report that his results came back okay. The staff at the Animal League got a chance to talk to Chaz’s new family and catch up on his exciting new life.

1st Quarter 2008
Our precious Chaz is thriving in his new home. He and Indy, his new brother, have truly bonded and we are so happy to see him experiencing the love and fulfillment that a family can provide. The League won’t miss out on Chaz’s antics very long, as he will be visiting us consistently for check-ups. These check-ups are vital because they allow the medical staff here at the League to monitor Chaz’s heart condition. Thank you to all of Chaz’s Sponsors for their dedication to his care!

4th Quarter 2007
Chaz loves having his very own family. Chaz’s health remains steady, and his spirits are soaring. Chaz is an amazingly affectionate cat who has really blossomed since moving in with his family. Speaking of blossoms, Chaz is fascinated by the plants in the house. His foster mom has to make sure she stops him from “conducting business” in them. Other than a few minor adjustments, things have been going very well.

3rd Quarter 2007
It looks like it was Chaz’ lucky day recently, as he was adopted into his new forever home! As much as we will miss our resident cat, in the League’s care since October 2003, we couldn’t be happier for him. Congratulations, Chaz!

2nd Quarter 2007
Our resident Chaz is his usual loving self. He gives the sweetest little sandpaper kisses when you pet him and purrs so loudly, you can hear him across the room. Chaz has had plenty of company lately, as it is kitten season, and many of his neighbors are mommas with litters. Nothing seems to bother Chaz though. He’s just the most loving cat anyone could hope for. We are so happy that we have been able to care for him for so long. Thank you for making that possible.

1st Quarter 2007
Chaz is a big bundle of love with tons of animal magnetism. Few of us here can resist his feline charms; for at any given moment, you can hear sweet whispers of affection coming from his station. His upper respiratory infection has cleared up and he's back to his old love-glutton self. Thank you for always being there for Chaz and all our special needs animals. If it weren't for your consistent support, Chaz and the others would not be able to get the necessary medical treatment they regularly need.

4th Quarter 2006
Chaz still calls the League's Foster Care Ward his home, where he has the "Penthouse Suite". That's a fancy way of saying that his cage is on the top tier of three cages. He gets so excited when anyone comes to pet him and he starts immediately purring with love! Chaz has gained some needed weight over the past few months, which is good since he was a on the skinny side. His healthy appetite means he is feeling better and it's all thanks to the necessary medical care that our Sponsors allow us to provide!

3rd Quarter 2006
Chaz was lucky enough to have a visitor recently! One of his sponsors who live close by made an appointment to visit with our very favorite boarder. Chaz, of course, was his charming self and even allowed her to pick him up and put him on her lap! He was purring and giving the sponsor sandpaper tongue kisses on her hand. We think he was just so excited to be out of his cage for a little while. This visit was a real afternoon treat! Chaz was able to stretch his legs and socialize with someone who was so very happy to meet him. One of the veterinary technicians was explaining how easy it is to administer his heart medication. It really is as simple as opening his mouth, putting the pill in and closing his mouth! Some cats give such a hard time, but not wonderful Chaz. He's a good boy and we can't wait for the day when we get to tell you he's been adopted. Until then, we keep our fingers crossed and give him tons of love.

2nd Quarter 2006
Chaz is still in the Foster Care ward, unadopted but definitely not unloved. Due to the time of year, Chaz is surrounded on all sides by lady cats and their babies. He’s practically the only adult male in the whole ward!  Despite all the noise from the mewling kittens, Chaz is still calm and content. His appetite is holding up, and he purrs louder than any other cat in the whole ward. We’re glad his heart problem isn’t currently giving him any trouble and also glad that his spirits seem high. Perhaps this Spring season we can finally find Chaz his forever home. None of us have given up the hope that the right person or family is out there – we just hope to find them soon.

1st Quarter 2006
Dear Chaz is still in our Foster Care ward in the Medical Center. He really needs a new foster care home! The techs make it as nice as they can for him. His cage has a nice bed for snoozing but it’s not the same as a home. Sometimes when things are somewhat quiet, he gets to walk around the Foster Care ward loose so he can stretch his legs. Chaz loves to play with items from the ward like Q-tips and medicine bottle caps. He can really bat them around! He likes these items more than the regular cat toys that the techs have for him. His appetite isn’t always so great, we think he’s a little depressed staying in a cage so much so he’s been put on an appetite stimulant. He does seem to enjoy being hand fed and even gives kisses. He gave yours truly one on my nose! We are hopeful that we can find a new home for him as soon as possible.

December 2005
We are happy to report now that some time has passed Chaz has begun to settle in quite nicely into the new routines of life in the Foster Care ward. He even has a brand new cozy bed for snoozing and is beginning to come out of his shell towards his caregivers. That makes us all very happy because we want to shower him with love, hugs and kisses- pats on the head and rubs behind the ears—anything and everything possible to help him through this lonely time in his life. Most important of all he is eating well and is especially fond of his morning meals however he does nibble throughout the day. This is so important and we’re really glad his appetite is so substantial. Your generosity allows us to provide Chaz and the other special needs animals with much needed medical care. We thank you.

November 2005
Poor Chaz has had a set back – his foster care home could no longer keep him. So Chaz is back at the League until we can find another family for him. When Chaz arrived, he was given a full exam – everything checked out great and he weighed in at a healthy 11 pounds. Usually an outgoing cat, Chaz is feeling a bit shy these days – but everyone here does all they can to make our sweet friend feel comfortable and welcome. We can’t thank you enough for your continued generosity. Your support allows Chaz and the other special needs animals with a second chance at health and happiness. We couldn’t do it without you.

October 2005
Air conditioning may keep you cool, but it also keeps the windows closed and fresh air out. So now that the days aren’t so hot and the windows are open, Chaz is a much happier kitty. His biggest problem is deciding just which window view he prefers – the front with its cars and people, or the back with birds galore. Chaz just loves to chase the birds – from inside the house. Sometimes his foster care Mom gets concerned with how worked up Chaz gets over those feathered creatures – with his heart condition, she doesn’t want him to get more agitated than necessary. So she’ll try and lure him away from the window with a treat and some one-on-one playtime. It works for a little while, but soon Chaz is drawn back to activities outside his window. Thank you so much for always being there for Chaz and the other special needs animals. Your generosity allows them to enjoy their days in comfort and safety.

September 2005
Chaz has been sleeping more than usual lately – it could be just due to the heat, but we are monitoring him to make sure it isn’t a sign of something more serious. Other than that, Chaz continues to do well – he’s eating and drinking and using the litter pan regularly. When Chaz is active, he is the champ of bottle cap hockey. Of course, he loves to play his championship games in the middle of the night – sometimes it gets very loud! If it goes on too long and is really noisy, his foster care family will put away the puck – but Chaz always manages to find it. We can’t thank you enough for your kindness. You are truly an integral part of the lives of Chaz and the other special needs animals.

August 2005
Some cats are known to be finicky – even when it comes to playmates. Some don’t want anything to do with other felines, and some pick and choose who they will play with. But not Chaz – he loves all the cats in his house equally. He romps with them all, and they truly have a great time together. Recently one of Chaz’s kitty pals wasn’t feeling well, and he and Chaz could not play together for a few weeks. Chaz definitely missed his little friend – thankfully his buddy feels much better now, and they are back to running and rolling around together. You are such an important part of Chaz’s and the other special needs animal’s lives. It is because of your kindness that they are living happier and healthier lives. Thank you so much.

July 2005
When Chaz first came to us, he was a bit of a “wild” kitty – climbing drapes and testing gravity on a regular basis – but now he’s matured and settled down some.  Of course, Chaz still wants to be top cat in his house, and has no problem keeping everyone else in line – and out of his choice sun spot in the window. It never ceases to amaze us that, despite his heart problems, Chaz is still the most active cat in the house! Thank you so much for always being there for Chaz and the other special needs animals. Your love and support allows them a second chance at healthy and happy lives.

June 2005
Chaz recently had an x-ray and echocardiogram, and although he is doing well overall, the tests revealed a slight worsening of his condition. The veterinarian has increased the dosage of Chaz’s heart medication – he also takes baby aspirin – and has ordered a follow-up exam within the next few months. Chaz continues to get around with little or no trouble – but we’ll certainly be keeping a close eye on him. Thank you for your love, your kindness, and your support. Your generosity allows us to provide Chaz and the other special needs animals with loving homes and needed medical care.

May 2005
Chaz visited us recently for a re-check and he was an extremely well behaved kitty -very affectionate too. Chaz weighed in at a healthy 11 pounds, but the veterinarian was concerned about the results of the ultrasound so additional testing has been ordered. We, of course, will keep you posted on his condition. Your love and support makes a huge difference in the quality of life for Chaz and the other special needs animals. Thank you for being such a good friend to them.

April 2005
Chaz will visit us soon for a re-check. While he’s here we’ll run some blood work and will do an ultrasound on his heart. He hasn’t displayed any symptoms to indicate further heart problems, so we’re hopeful that the ultrasound won’t reveal anything suspicious. While Chaz is a very loving cat, he gets very anxious when he comes to the Medical Center. We of course will do everything we can to put our sweet Chaz at ease while he’s here. Your generous support allows us to provide Chaz and the other special needs animals with loving homes and needed medical care. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

March 2005
While Chaz still has rambunctious moments, for the most part he behaves well and is settling in nicely in his foster care home. Chaz’s foster care Mom has seen a new playful side to his personality – whenever an empty box appears in the house Chaz immediately jumps in and claims it for himself. No treats or toys can get him to come out! Nor will he let any other cat in the house play in it – Chaz isn’t very good at sharing. Thank you for being such a good friend to Chaz and the other special needs animals. Your generous support allows us to give them the care that they need.

February 2005
One of the best things about the Sponsor program is that it allows us to put our special needs animals in foster care homes where someone can closely monitor them and watch for any changes in their condition. For example, Chaz's foster care Mom has learned his personality and when he's not himself, she picks up on it immediately. She knows that any change in his behavior - lethargy, eating habits - could signal a problem with his heart. This is really important for the health of the animals because the sooner we know there may be a problem, the sooner we can try and fix it. Thank you for allowing us to care for Chaz and the other special needs animals. Your generosity is providing them with the care they so desperately need.
