Sponsor Lady Harmony

Lady Harmony joined the Animal League's Sponsor Program in 2008. This beautiful, adult black cat, who is between 10-11 years old, has diabetes and will have this condition for the rest of her life. Because of this, she is on insulin shots two times a day, and the levels of the insulin will eventually change to adjust to her blood-glucose levels. To keep this condition under control and monitored properly, she will require regular monthly checkups.

In addition to the diabetes, the Animal League's veterinarians also found bladder stones in Lady Harmony and see that she has a history of urinary tract infections. We actually suspect that her bladder stones were previously misdiagnosed as a urinary tract infection by her former veterinarian. Lady Harmony will need a cystotomy operation to remove the stones, and is expected to recover fully from it within three to four months.

Lady Harmony is a wonderfully warm and loving cat. She enjoys getting her head scratched and being spoken to in a soft, soothing voice. With treatment, her prognosis is good and she will be able to have a wonderful quality of life.

Lady Harmony's Updates

3rd Quarter 2009
Lady Harmony is doing well. During her most recent medical check-up, she was terrified up until the actual exam, and then she became very feisty! Her general blood work came back fine. Another special blood test was done to see if she has developed diabetes again which came back normal and means the special diet she's on is working to prevent her diabetes from reoccurring. She has lost one and a half pounds which is very positive because she is overweight. She is now eating the right amount for her weight. In addition, Lady Harmony had her echocardiogram done by a cardiologist, and although it did show some heart changes, no medication is needed at this time. Thankfully, it does not clinically affect her.

We are pleased to report that Lady Harmony is doing great! In terms of her medical condition, it remains the same. She has found a new hobby though. She absolutely loves to lie on her soft, fluffy bed which sites perfectly on the windowsill. She watches the birds and pigeons. She stares at them with a face of fascination and often begins meowing. Then, she gradually falls asleep in the sun. She also continues to get along better with the other cats in her household. Her foster mother has caught her sneaking up on them, only to play and lay with them - truly enjoying life! That's a big improvement considering she usually would have to be approached by the other cats first before she would consider socializing with them.

1st Quarter 2009
Lady Harmony's foster mother reports that she is doing great! She states that there's not much new to report. No news really is good news especially for our special-needs pets. Our dear Lady continues to get along better with the other cats in the household. During the day she loves to sleep on her big, fluffy bed, and once in awhile, will allow another kitty to lay with her. Lady Harmony is due for a periodic check-up at the Animal League's medical center soon and we'll be sure to update you on her medical progress.

4th Quarter 2008
New To Program! We are happy to report that medically, Lady Harmony is doing well. She is still a little scared of the other cats in her foster care home. However, she has come to love one of the kittens. She has taken on the job of the kitten's mother and will groom her and let her lay on her bed with her. It's an endearing sight to see! Lady Harmony remains on a special diet to manage her transient diabetes and she gets urine dips done twice a week just to make sure everything is normal. She enjoys being brushed by her foster mother and especially loves receiving belly rubs!
