Deuce is an adorable, young, mixed-breed dog who was part of an Animal League International Rescue Mission in 2007. At first glance, it was obvious that there was a problem with Deuce's leg. Deuce has angular limb deformity of his left front leg, which gives the appearance that his leg is turned out. Because of this condition, Deuce will need a series of surgeries over months time to correct these defects and allow him to have a good quality of life. An existing scar on his leg and some missing bone indicates that there was either possible trauma or possibly a previous surgery done to his leg prior to his arrival at the Animal League. Deuce takes Cosequin, a nutritional supplement to help maintain optimal joint function and needs to keep his weight down so as not to stress his limbs. |
Deuce's injury will not affect his life span and certainly has not affected his wonderful temperament. He is a great dog with tons of personality, and we are happy to give him the love and care he needs for as long as he needs it. Deuce's condition will be life-long. However, through the Animal League's Sponsor Program, Deuce has found a foster care home, where he will be loved, respected, completely cared for and given the wonderful life he truly deserves. With the help of generous monthly Sponsors like you, he'll live out the rest of his days as healthy and happy as possible. We hope that you will choose to be his Sponsor Program pet parent - thank you!
Deuce's Updates
1st Quarter 2010
Winter seems to be dragging on and our cutie pie Deuce is looking forward to springtime weather...if it ever comes. He loves outdoor play, especially with his favorite buddy, housemate dog Griffin. No matter what the weather, he relies on any opportunity to walk around the neighborhood. Natural instincts prevail, and Deuce is simply a curious fellow, who smells everything in sight. He’s energetic, but docile when required – we think that’s a great combination of traits. We couldn’t be more pleased with his progress in his loving foster care home and his medical condition remains under control with consistent monitoring from a group of devoted people that love to care for Deuce.
4th Quarter 2009
Deuce, renamed Louie by his adoptive mother, is reportedly doing great. He recently spent time at a fancy doggy day spa and it seems as if he could get used to a pampered lifestyle! He loves the autumn season and running around outside, so when the rain comes he gets rather lethargic and gloomy. We are looking forward to seeing how he reacts to the snow - we think he's going to absolutely love it. Deuce is still close with his best dog friend, Griffin. His front leg seems to be holding up fine as well. His foster mother often comments on his alertness, his high energy level and that he is a bundle of life that she feels very blessed to have as part of her family.
3rd Quarter 2009
We have exciting news to report on Deuce! First, he has been officially adopted by his devoted foster mother! Due to his lifelong medical condition, Deuce will remain under the care of the Animal League's life-saving Sponsor Program. Second, it has been determined by Animal League veterinarians that Deuce will not require another surgery on his leg at this time. As a Sponsor Program pet, the Animal League will closely monitor Deuce for the rest of his life. Your monthly donations for Deuce and all the special-needs pets ensure their health and happiness forever. Thank you for your love of these animals and your support towards their care.
2nd Quarter 2009
Deuce, our newest special-needs dog enrolled into the Sponsor Program, is a wonderful dog that all the staff agrees has a great temperament! We are happy to report that Deuce is feeling well and seems very happy in his foster care home. His foster care mother Kate, works here at the Animal League, which means we get to see a lot of Deuce and that means he gets constant and much appreciated attention! He is receiving the best care possible at this time and we promise to closely monitor him and provide all that he needs to improve his quality of life with the help of generous monthly Sponsorship supporters like you – thank you!
