Lucky joined the League's Sponsor Program in 2006. Lucky is the League's signature black & white spotted male Dalmatian. Unfortunately, Lucky suffers from stones within his urinary tract, chronic inflammation of his liver and muscle tissue and lower intestinal issues. Dalmatians are one of the breeds at the highest risk for stones due to inherited metabolic abnormalities. Lucky also faces the ongoing challenge of living his life hearing impaired. Yet despite of all these hardships, Lucky remains one of the most gentle and friendly dogs that we are “lucky” enough to know! Won't you sponsor Lucky and give a monthly donation in his name that will be sure to make a difference in his life and the lives of all the innocent and deserving sponsor pets?

Lucky's Updates

3rd Quarter 2009
We are happy to report that Lucky continues to be his usual happy-go-lucky self! However, the warmer weather has diminished his appetite and he prefers only one meal a day. He certainly doesn't look like he would miss the second meal though. He’s been passing the summer hours lying under the ceiling fan where he enjoys staying cool. He's looking forward to his upcoming grooming appointment. Lucky is one of the few special-needs dogs in the Sponsor Program that actually yearns for all the primping and pampering he can get his paws on!

2nd Quarter 2009
We can assure you Lucky is very photogenic. His beautiful, black spotted, white Dalmatian coat is a classic, but good luck trying to get a photo of him! The other day, Lucky's foster family had visitors over to their house. One of the visitors, a young girl, bonded with Lucky immediately. They happily hung out all day getting to know each other. The young girl's mother thought it would be a great idea to photograph them together, so she took out her cell phone to catch the perfect shot. In one fell swoop, Lucky ducked out of the way and went into hiding! Don't ask us how he knows the cell phone has a camera function, but boy are his instincts razor sharp! He's part comical and all pure Lucky - whom we love!

1st Quarter 2009
We are happy to report that Lucky is maintaining his weight. In addition, there are no new lumps and his last biopsy was negative, thank goodness. This is a great start to his New Year! His foster mother reports that Lucky rang in the New Year relaxing in peace. She says he's such a happy dog, even when he is not feeling his best. But, there's something new that he doesn't like - We know already that he doesn't like having his picture taken, but now, seeing a cell phone excites him and makes him nervous. If he sees a camera or a cell phone, he runs in the opposite direction and hides until the coast is clear!

4th Quarter 2008
No news really is good news where our beloved special-needs pets are concerned. Lucky is doing well and there are no changes to report in his condition. He is easing his way right into the fall season. He enjoys running and jumping just like any other normal dog. Walking and playing outside remains his favorite ways to pass the time. Thank you for enabling Lucky to be a truly lucky dog!

3rd Quarter 2008
Our Sponsor Program pets are so important to the Animal League and to Sponsors like you. We love it when we find out something new about them and enjoy sharing any findings with you. We recently found out that our dear Lucky is quite camera shy. In fact, if he sees anyone with a camera (even a foster family member), he runs in the opposite direction! During his recent check-up at the Animal League's medical center, we wanted to take photos of him for our new sponsor program website blog and the only way we were able to get him to stay in one place was to tie his leash to a bench and snap away very quickly! Medically, Lucky had a recent eye infection, but it has since been resolved.

2nd Quarter 2008
Lucky's enjoying life again and feeling much better. The veterinarians have decided it best to leave well enough alone since he hasn't had any other signs of tumors – thank goodness! Lucky loves the warmer weather and enjoys running around his back yard. That includes running into the flowers! His foster mother placed chicken wire in her garden so that Lucky couldn't dig up the flowers.

1st Quarter 2008
Lucky has had quite a lot going on medically lately. He recently underwent the removal of a cancerous growth on his hind leg. The tumor was stage II cancer and while it is not considered to have infiltrated into the leg, it does have the ability to reoccur. He has also developed a small growth on one of his other legs which will be closely monitored. He is required to wear a large plastic collar to prevent licking of his wound. Needless to say, Lucky hates the collar! In addition, during the surgery, Lucky received a professional dental cleaning to get rid of plaque build up. He was also implanted with a microchip in case he should ever get loose. He is eating well and remains playful. Hang in there, Lucky!

4th Quarter 2007
Lucky is doing great! He recently had the opportunity to check out two 4-week old kittens that were being foster cared at home. He smelled them, had no clue why they were in his home, and turned away. Needless to say, everyone was pretty relieved that there was no fighting. During the day, Lucky's best friend is the family rabbit named Cannoli. Also a League adoptee, Cannoli spends the day in a very large crate with Lucky at his side. The two have a strange and beautiful bond, and it's a pleasure to watch them enjoy each other's company.

3rd Quarter 2007
We would like to welcome Lucky into the Sponsor Program. Lucky is a charming adult Dalmatian. About eight years old, poor Lucky has various health problems. Regardless of Lucky's health concerns, he is still a playful dog. We are happy that we can give him the medical care he needs, and we feel so very “lucky” to know him.
