Toto's Updates
3rd Quarter 2006 Toto's recent check up revealed no significant changes in his eyes, not unlike last time. He still gets drops everyday and this seems to be doing the trick. He wears a harness on his leash walks, which is a must for his collapsing trachea problems. He does not wheeze or cough with a harness like he would with a collar around his neck. His check up revealed some dental disease but his mouth does not appear painful when he's eating at this time. This will be something his foster family will keep an eye on. Toto has a lot of little old age problems, but because of your life--saving support, he gets everything he needs. Your generosity is very much appreciated.
2nd Quarter 2006 This old timer, we’re happy to report is doing just fine. His eyes haven’t cleared up too much, but thankfully they haven’t gotten any worse either. He’s still on the eye drops every day and is a pretty good boy while they’re being administered. He’ll be back in for a check-up soon. His foster brother tells us that he enjoys sleeping at night in a little bed next to his foster mom’s bed. It must be such a cute sight to see. We’ve also learned that sometimes Toto gets a special treat: some of his foster mom’s banana or apple! He really gobbles this stuff up. He goes for leash walks every day, and is just generally an all around happy dog. As his foster care brother put it, ‘he’s enjoying his retirement years!’
1st Quarter 2006 Toto, we are happy to say is doing well. Now that the cooler weather is here he’s been sleeping a lot lately. He’s an old man though and deserves all the quiet naptime he can get! His eyes are starting to clear up a bit and we’re so happy about that. He still is on the eye medicine and it looks like the meds are working. He came in for a recheck recently and was rather nervous but was a good boy for the exam.
December 2005 Toto had to have the damage to his eye tested recently. We’re happy to report that the damage to his eye is not too far gone and he will continue the medication that has been working so well for him. The final result of the testing was corneal degeneration and he will need a follow up exam within the next few weeks. In the meantime Toto seems to have been rejuvenated by the decreased pressure and has become very spry on his walks recently! We’re so glad to have the opportunity to make him as comfortable as possible. Thank you for always being there – we couldn’t do it without you.
October 2005 Poor Toto’s eyes have gotten worse – the cataract in his right has created a tremendous amount of pressure and will need surgery soon, or we fear it may rupture. If that weren’t enough, his left eye has corneal scarring. We will do all we can to make our sweet Toto as comfortable as possible and will keep you posted on the outcome of his surgery. Thank you for caring so much about Toto and the other special needs animals. Your support of the Sponsor Program ensures that they all receive the best possible care.
September 2005 Toto’s follow-up testing raised more questions than answers. We will review the results carefully to determine the best course of action, and we will run more blood work and other diagnostics if necessary. Thankfully Toto isn’t showing any negative symptoms so far, but we want to catch anything that might be lurking before it causes any real problems. Your generous support allows us to care for Toto and the other special needs animals. It is because of you that they have a roof over their heads, food to eat, access to medical care, and loving caretakers. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
August 2005 Toto will visit us soon for more follow-up testing. We may have him stay here with us – recent blood tests came back with some inconclusive results, so we want to make sure everything is just right. For the most part, Toto is holding his own – he’s a bit more tired these days, but who isn’t in the hot summer months? But we’ll be sure to check him out top to bottom just in case – we know that the best way to take care of any medical problem is to address them as soon as possible. We’ll keep you posted on his condition. Thank you for letting Toto and the other special needs animals enjoy each and every day. It is only because of your kindness that they are getting such a wonderful second chance.
July 2005 Toto doesn’t like the heat, and hardly wants to go outside at all. His foster care Dad has to encourage him to get out for even a short walk. Yes, we’ll admit there are some bribes involved – before they go out Toto’s Dad always puts ice cubes in his water dish, so that the water will be really cold when they get back. Toto especially likes it if there’s some ice bits left that he can chew on. For now Toto appears to be holding his own, but we’ll be running some tests soon just to make sure his system is stable. We rely on your continued kindness and generosity so that we may provide for Toto and the other special needs animals. Thank you for always being there – we couldn’t do it without you.
June 2005 Toto recently came in for a follow-up exam. Unfortunately results showed the beginnings of Cushing’s disease, which causes excess hormones from the adrenal glands to be produced. So far Toto is not displaying any symptoms, but we will treat them as soon as they become apparent. For now we’ll make sure that Toto eats well and remains as comfortable as possible. Thank you for caring so much about Toto and the other special needs animals. Your unending support makes all the difference in the quality of their lives.
May 2005 Toto visited us recently for a recheck and some of his blood work came back questionable. Hopefully it's nothing serious - maybe just old age creeping up on him - but follow-up tests have been ordered. He did weigh in at a healthy 21 pounds, and his coughing and wheezing appear under control. We'll keep you posted on his condition. Thank you for opening your heart up to Toto and the other special needs animals. Your generosity and love makes all the difference in the quality of their lives.
April 2005 The weather hasn’t been bothering Toto as much these days, and as a result his arthritis seems under control. In fact Toto’s doing so well, he’s almost spunky. He’s been spotted digging under couch for his tennis ball – sounds like he’s ready for spring and playtime. Toto will be in for an exam soon and we’re hopeful that everything will check out fine. Thank you so much for always being there for Toto and the other special needs animals. Your generosity allows them a second chance at a normal and happy life.
March 2005 Toto really doesn’t like the cold weather – it really gets him down. Luckily there have been a few spring-like days recently for Toto to enjoy – and did he ever. The moment he saw the sun shining he perked right up and wanted to go for a walk. He enjoyed taking in all the sights and sounds and didn’t even mind the puddles and mud. He did however mind it when his foster care family tried to wipe the mud off his paws with a towel. But Toto knew that was a small price to pay for being able to enjoy the sunshine, so he tried his best to sit still and let them clean him up. Your unwavering love and support means so much to Toto and the other special needs animals. Without you, their lives could be headed in a completely different direction – and not for the better. Thank you for letting them live healthier, happier, and safer lives.
February 2005 Toto continues to sleep a lot, but he has perked up a bit. He's a hard dog to figure out - some days he hates the cold weather and his foster care Dad has to convince him to go outside. Other days, Toto can hardly wait to get out to the cold and the snow. The best we can guess is that on his good days Toto is up for anything! Your love and support for Toto and the other special needs animals makes all the difference in their lives. We couldn't provide for them without your generosity.
