Having trouble staying motivated to exercise during these cold, winter months? Finding a furry exercise buddy who needs to go for a walk regardless of the weather may be the answer. That's why Weight Watchers®, the most trusted name in weight loss, and North Shore Animal League America, the world's largest no-kill, pet rescue and adoption organization have teamed up for the "Adopt a Walking Buddy" campaign that will run throughout the winter.
Recent studies have found that walking a dog 20 minutes a day, five days a week produced an average weight loss of about 14 pounds over a period of 50 weeks. The same study also showed that people are more committed to walking when they know the well being of their canine buddies are depending on it. On average, dog owners got almost twice as much mild to moderate exercise as non dog owners. This partnership will encourage ongoing activity, as well as support a great cause - saving the lives of homeless shelter pets. You're not just adopting a friend for life, but a partner in your plan for health.
